šŸ“ From Real Estate to Jacket Nation Sports to LEBtv (and how it all ended up being the same thing)

This is part of a running journal.

A lot of what I’m writing comes from conversations we’re having on acrossfromme… sitting across from people building businesses, figuring things out, and trying to make sense of it all.

This one just happens to be mine.

I didn’t sit down one day and map any of this out.

There wasn’t some big plan.

If anything… it only makes sense now that I’m looking back at it.

It started with real estate

Real estate was the first time something felt off.

Everything looked the same.

Same listings.Same photos.Same approach.

And I remember thinking…

there’s no way this is the best we can do

So I started trying things.

Better visuals.Video.Actually showing up on social.

Not because I knew what I was doing…

I just didn’t want to blend in.

What I didn’t realize yet

I wasn’t really learning real estate.

I was learning attention.

What makes someone stop scrolling. What makes someone pay attention. What makes someone remember you.

And more importantly…

What doesn’t.

Real estate is the ultimate small business

I still think this.

Because you don’t just ā€œsell houses.ā€

You do everything.

Sales.Marketing.Customer service.Lead generation.Follow up.Systems.

There’s nowhere to hide.

If something isn’t working… it’s on you.

Looking back, that’s probably why this all started to click.

Then I met Bryon

That’s when things started to shift.

Bryon Sweno… Sweno Visuals.

He was already doing high-level visual work.

I was trying to figure out how to use content to stand out in real estate.

So we teamed up.

The idea was simple:

let’s use content to win attention in real estate

CO•Lab (the first real attempt)

That turned into CO•Lab.

Looking back… that was the first real swing at this whole ā€œmarketingā€ thing.

We didn’t call it that at the time.

We were just:

  • creating content

  • helping businesses

  • trying to do things differently

Some of it worked.

Some of it didn’t.

A lot of it was just figuring it out as we went.

What I didn’t realize yet

Even then… I still thought the goal was:

better real estate marketingbetter contentbetter visuals

I didn’t realize what we were actually building.

Then Jacket Nation Sports happened

Again… not some big master plan.

Just:

there’s already attention here

People care about sports.

The community is already watching.

What if we just showed up consistently and did it right?

The mistake I made (again)

I thought:

this is the thing

Streaming games.Posting highlights.Building an audience.

And it worked.

But I was still looking at the surface.

Because it was never about sports

It was about:

  • attention

  • consistency

  • community

Same thing I saw in real estate.

Same thing we were experimenting with in co•lab.

I just hadn’t connected the dots yet.

The realization

At some point it clicked:

this works anywhere people care

Not just sports.

Not just houses.

Anywhere there’s attention… there’s opportunity.

That’s where LEBtv came from

LEBtv wasn’t some brand idea we dreamed up.

It was more like:

finally understanding what we had been doing the whole time

Because once you see it, you can’t unsee it:

  • businesses need attention

  • nonprofits need attention

  • people doing good things need attention

And most of them don’t know how to get it.

The biggest mistake

For too long, I thought:

we make videos

That’s how I explained it.

That’s how I sold it.

That’s how I saw it.

And it was wrong.

What it actually is

LEBtv is the engine.

Jacket Nation Sports is just the most visible example of it working.

That’s the part I missed early.

Because this applies everywhere

Real estate.Sports.Local businesses.Nonprofits.

If people care about it…

And you consistently show up around it…

You build something.

The pattern (looking back)

Real estate taught me:

attention matters more than anything

Teaming up with Bryon showed me:

content done right changes everything

co•lab showed me:

this could work beyond just real estate

Jacket Nation Sports proved:

consistency + attention = something real

LEBtv is:

how you do that on purpose

The part I’m still learning

This isn’t finished.

If anything, it feels like we’re just getting to the real part of it.

Because now it’s not:

ā€œcan this work?ā€

It’s:

ā€œhow far can this actually go?ā€

The next chapter

Now:

  • businesses are starting to see it

  • the community is starting to feel it

  • and it’s connecting across everything

It’s not separate anymore.

It’s a system.

Final thought

I still sell real estate.

I still cover sports.

I still sit across from people having conversations.

But it’s all the same thing now.

It just took me a while to see it.

If you’re building something…

Or trying to figure out why what you’re doing isn’t getting attention…

You’re probably not that far off.

You might just be looking at it as the wrong thing.
